United Nations Environment Programme
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the voice for the environment in the UN system.
Established in 1972, UNEP's mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for
the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and people to improve their quality of
life without compromising that of future generations. UNEP is an advocate, educator, catalyst and
facilitator promoting the wise use of the planet's natural assets for sustainable development. It
works with many partners, UN entities, international organizations, national governments, non-governmental
organizations, business, industry, the media and civil society. UNEP's work involves providing support for:
environmental assessment and reporting; legal and institutional strengthening and environmental policy
development; sustainable use and management of natural resources; integration of economic development and

TERI
TERI was established in 1974 to tackle the immense and acute problems that mankind is likely to face within the
years due to gradual depletion of the earth’s finite energy resources, which are largely non-renewable. Over
the years TERI has created an environment that is enabling, dynamic and inspiring for the development of
solutions to global problems in the fields of energy, environment and current patterns of development, which are
largely unsustainable. TERI has grown to establish a presence not only in India but is perhaps the only developing
country institution to have established a presence in North America, Europe, Japan, Malaysia and the Gulf. Symbolic
of this fact is the annual Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), a major event focusing on sustainable
development, the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and assessment of worldwide progress in these
critical areas.

cause of environment and sustainable development, is a testimony to the uniqueness and global appeal. Over the years the
summit has enjoyed global support from over 60 countries. Distinguished world leaders, brilliant opinion makers and high
level global participants have made DSDS a coveted event.
It is a unique global forum for analysis of and debate on some of the most crucial environmental and climate change challenges
being faced by humanity at large. Informed discussion among participants from corporate, governments, international agencies
and institutes provide critical mass, for formulation and delineation of strategies to take the sustainable development agenda forward.
